Sam's Vision

Sam´s Vision - A SMart Way Of Life

Private View

November 12th 2014

‘Sam’s Vision - A SMart Way of Life’

Sam’s Vision - A SMart Way of Life is an art exhibition running from 6th November - 31st December 2014 at the elite Seven Dials Club in London. The exhibition is in memory of Sam Archer and her daughter Ruby who’s lives were taken in the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and marks the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. Sam Archer played a prolific part in the 90’s en vogue, best friend to casting director Sarah Murray and close acquaintance to Alexander McQueen, Sam was also friend and model booker to Kate Moss in Paris who helped launch the Sam And Ruby Charity in 2006, which raised $150,000 to aid the rebuilding of schools and educational resources in Thailand post Tsunami. The exhibition will feature video clips showing historical moments in fashion shot in the late nineties by Sam herself on her handycam & super 8 at designer catwalk shows amidst icons Kate Moss, Esther de Jong, Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. Freeze frame images of the videos clips will be exhibited as part of the on-going exhibition. Sam’s Vision will also show commissioned artwork from established artists including Spanish painter and designer Javier Mariscal and SMart Network Members portraying their own perspective of Sam. A private view and celebrity auction will be held on Wednesday 12th November at the Seven Dials Club raising funds for UK based registered charity SMart Network dedicated to empowering homeless and socially excluded people through creative activity finding pathways into social inclusion. A choice selection of artwork including a valuable piece from graffiti artist James Cochran, well known for his pointillist painting style will be auctioned along with a limited edition golf bag donated by the famous golfer Jack Nicklaus plus a few special surprises. Sister and founder of Sam Says Enjoy Life Nathalie Archer comments: “10 years have gone by since my sister Sam and niece Ruby Rose were taken away from us, the Sam Says Enjoy Life project started when I got hold of all the mini divi tapes that Sam and her husband Patrice filmed of their lives, I thought to myself that Sam had left me a message to spread to the world with her fun positive energy and spirit. When I heard about SMart Network I wanted to collaborate with them and hope that this will be just the beginning of a long creative partnership”. The money raised at the private view will be donated to SMart Network to cover basic running costs of its projects. This includes the quarterly publication ‘SMart Magazine’ and funding to secure permanent premises providing gallery and workshop space for homeless and socially marginalised people to exhibit their work, as well as provide regular creative activities for them. Notes for Editors • SMart Network is a charity established in September 2000 to empower homeless and socially excluded people through creative activity. It was founded and developed by arts facilitator Jaime Bautista who has more than 30 years of experience working with severely disadvantaged people in the UK and abroad. SMart celebrated it’s 10th Anniversary in 2010 showcasing art from it’s members at the Seven Dials club - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hGfKBSGQcE • SMart has close relationships with leading cultural institutions including: The British Museum, The National Gallery, Somerset House & The Courtauld Institute, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery and The Wallace Collection. • In 2006 two photographic exhibitions were organised in London and New York raising $50,000 for the Sam And Ruby charity. London casting directors Sarah Murray & Jess Hallett auctioned celebrity photos taken by prolific photographers including Mario Testino, Sam Taylor Wood, and Nick Knight. In New York Jennifer Ramey, friend of Sam and model booker for Kate Moss in the USA organised a photographic exhibition and auction at the notorious Milk Gallery sponsored by Kate Moss and Nikon. ‘Sam’s Vision – A SMart Way Of Life’ is a very special one off event looking for media partners and sponsors interested in promoting sustainability, collaborative work and social benefit.
